About the Committee


The Local Permanent Committee for Bioethics and Medical Ethics at Northern Border University is dedicated to ensuring the ethical integrity of research tools applied within the university or conducted by its affiliates. This is achieved by safeguarding human rights and privacy, as well as ensuring animal welfare and protection.
The committee was established pursuant to Royal Decree No. 7/ب/9512, issued on 18/05/1422 AH, which mandated the formation of a National Committee for Bioethics and Medical Ethics under the supervision and administration of King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology. Accordingly, the Local Permanent Committee for Bioethics and Medical Ethics at Northern Border University was formed by Administrative Decision No. 442000875, issued on 09/08/1444 AH, and was registered with the National Committee for Bioethics under the number (HAP-09-A-043).

Committee Tasks



•    Establishing internal regulations for research and ethics related to living organisms, in alignment with the National Committee for Bioethics.
•    Reviewing research methodologies submitted by researchers concerning human safety and dignity in human-related studies.
•    Reviewing research methodologies submitted by researchers to ensure no harm is caused to animals or plants during scientific research.
•    Ensuring that minors, individuals with limited legal capacity, or people with disabilities are not exploited in research.
•    Granting or denying ethical approval of proposed research methodologies.
•    Promoting awareness of bioethics and medical research ethics.
•    Promoting awareness of research ethics related to plants and wildlife.

•    Encouraging and advancing scientific research.
•    Introducing the committee, its role, and the procedures for obtaining research approval.
•    Ensuring that minors, individuals with limited legal capacity, or people with disabilities are not exploited in scientific research.
•    Continuously reviewing and improving regulations related to research ethics.

The Local Permanent Committee for Bioethics and Medical Ethics at the university consists of seven members representing various colleges and deanships of the university, in addition to an external member from the Health Cluster in the Northern Border Region. The committee is formed as follows:
